The year was 1908 -- an era of innovation and excitement. The first passenger airplane took flight; the first Mother's Day was observed; the first horror movie debuted; the Model T was introduced, and Taft was elected President.

At about the same time, an immigrant from Greece, who had been living and educating himself in Milwaukee, had an idea, took a chance and started a business that has stood the test of time and lasted generations. That business, London Hat Shop took shape as a store and service stop for the impeccable businessman. From hats to shoes, head to toe, the London was the place to go to both purchase and care for fine apparel. The London built its business and reputation by providing the highest quality service to its customers.

In the 1950s, a new generation, nieces and nephews, immigrated to Milwaukee to attend university and join their uncle who had been busy for decades working and growing his business. They went to school by day and worked under the watchful apprenticeship of their uncle at night. New ideas to expand services as well as the direction of the business took shape.

Soon the London would handle and care for its customers from head to toe and everything in between. By this time they had added tailoring, dress-making, custom clothing, shoe dying and repair, dry-cleaning and laundry services.

By the 1960s and 70s, the London expanded its locations and added even more services. It established a fabric, pattern and supply store and added bridal care and household care to its growing list of services.

During the 1980s, a time marked by the passing of the founder and another key member of the London family, Katherine took over the full operation of the business she helped build with her uncle. Her customers affectionately know her as Mrs. D and can always count on her.

With each passing decade, new styles and change, the London has kept pace and maintained a long tradition of excellent care for its customers. Just as the store has passed from one generation to the next, its customers have passed their taste and demand for quality service on from generation to generation.

The London continues to be known as "the place that can fix anything" and "where you take your best items." The London is also the place where you can still expect personalized care with honesty, integrity and the customer in mind every step of the way.

That rich tradition started long ago continues today with close to 100 years of experience to back it up. The London is proud of its long record of great service and survival in an ever competitive business. The next generation looks forward to continuing the London's commitment to excellence, service and their customers into the future.
